Description
The Kenana Knitters organisation, set in the tranquil Njoro area of Kenya, has come a long way since it’s humble beginning of employing 12 women. Today they proudly employ 580 registered knitters, 430 of whom are currently working with the organisation. The area is predominantly a farming community where agricultural work is typically given to the men. By being part of the Kenana organisation, the women knitters have the opportunity to earn income to help support themselves and their families. Through the sales of these products Kenana are also able to fund a range of welfare services provided to the women and their families such as:
- Education
- Eye tests and glasses if needed
- Health clinics
- Savings plans
- HIV/AIDS counselling
