These beautiful colour block baskets have been handwoven in Kenya by a small group of women who are part of a weaving cooperative. The cooperative provides regular work and income for around 40 women. Many of the women come from farming families and communities, where income is fleeting and very inconsistent due to drought, as well as crop failures. Through their employment they are able to provide for their families while at the same time sharing their wonderful, traditional craft with the rest of the world.
All of the baskets are handmade from start to finish meaning that the basket you purchase is truly individual and a one-off. When you receive your basket you will notice a ‘Thank You” card attached to it, from the cooperative. A wonderful way to feel the connection between original maker and final owner.
